In the wake of Hurricane/Storm/Disaster Irene, Clean Ocean Action hopes everyone is safe and secure as the power companies work to restore service to the tens of thousands still without power (including some COA staff!) and as crews work to clear debris, drain water, and restore roads throughout the region!
Here at COA, we’re working on figuring out just what the long-term damage of Irene will be to the oceans and coasts. We’re already seeing epic trash heaps on the beaches here at Sandy Hook (don’t worry - we’ll clean it all up at the Fall Beach Sweeps on October 22nd!). COA is also monitoring beach water quality testing up and down the coastline, stormwater infrastructure repair needs, and a few other problems cropping up.

We’ll continue to keep everyone informed about the effect of this rainy, rainy August on the oceans.
For the weekend, we hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, the last big summer weekend. The weather looks nice across the NY/NJ Bight from Montauk to Cape May, and hopefully the sun stays out through Monday!

Fall Beach Sweeps
- We’re going to be out by the thousands again this fall on October 22nd to clean up beaches at over 65 sites across New Jersey! Beach Clean Ups are a great way to get your family and friends outside on what (we hope) will be a beautiful fall morning, making our beaches ready for the winter!
