Interested in becoming a Volunteer for Marine Mammal Stranding Center? RSVP today!!!

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is looking for volunteers in Northern New Jersey. Clean Ocean Action will be hosting a Stranding Volunteer Training Workshop in Sandy Hook, NJ on Saturday, December 17th.

What is a Stranding Volunteer?
When the MMSC receives a call for a stranded animal we do our best to get to the scene as quickly as possible, but we couldn't do this without the help from our stranding volunteers.  Some volunteer responsibilities include; keeping people and pets away from the animal no matter if it is sick or healthy and to stay in constant contact with our Stranding Technicians.  In most cases, volunteers will also have to send us a picture of the animal so we can see it's condition.  Volunteers will have no direct contact with live animals unless directed by a Stranding Technician.  Once a technician arrives, volunteers may be asked to help transport the animal which sometimes includes heavy lifting.

In order to assist us with strandings, you must take this workshop first.  If you have already taken a workshop in the past, you are not required to take a second one.  Although you are welcome to attend as a refresher course.
Requirements for MMSC stranding volunteers:
-Must be at least 18 years old
-Must live within 15 minutes of the beach, or tributary
-Must own a digital camera, or camera phone
-Must be in good physical condition.

When: Saturday, December 17, 2011

Where: Building 18, Sandy Hook NJ
