The U.S. Department of Interior announced on Wednesday March 28, 2012, that it will be authorizing "seismic testing" to find oil and natural gas deposits in the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to just off the New Jersey Shore.
The Department ("DOI") will use loud, dangerous, and damaging seismic equipment to map out every last drop of oil and gas on the Atlantic Ocean continental shelf - and to figure out where drilling would be easiest (among other things). Read more here.
In response to this new threat, Clean Ocean Action issued a press statement (available here) and our opposition to this destructive initiative was echoed by New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-6) in the news.
The DOI will hold hearings on the proposed plan's environmental impacts, the last of which will be held in Atlantic City, NJ on Friday, April 27, at 1pm.
