Limited Public Comment Period for Pipeline Project

The “Northeast Supply Enhancement Project” is a proposed pipeline expansion project from Old Bridge, NJ, across the Raritan and Sandy Hook Bay and ocean, to Brooklyn, New York. The project will disturb over 20 miles of bay floor and impact numerous species, as well as fishing, boating, and recreational activities. The much too short public comment period for the scoping process closed on September 23, with no public meeting held along the Raritan and Sandy Hook Bayshore, where many of those who would be impacted by this project live and work.

COA continues to work with NY/NJ Baykeeper and elected officials to seek public meetings along the Bayshore and an expanded comment period for this project. The project could encourage the transport of fracking-produced natural gas from the Marcellus Shale region to the New York region.
New Jersey would absorb the environmental impacts and risks of accidents and leaks while receiving no benefit. Furthermore, continued investment in fossil infrastructure will further lock the region into a climate catastrophe in the near future. We must oppose this project.
