Run the Hook - Over 1,000 Runners Brave Nor'easter for Mother Ocean on Mother's Day
Waves of thanks to the man behind it all, Joey Garofalo (pictured on the left)!
The weather on Mother’s Day was far from the sunshine and warmth that most people hope for as the wind blew at gusts over 40 mph and rain fell in intervals from dawn ‘til dusk. That didn’t stop over 1,000 of the 2,000 registered runners from showing up and competing in the Run the Hook 5K/10K. Registration for Run the Hook, now in its 4th year, reached an all-time high in 2019, selling out at 2,000 registered participants. COA is so grateful to the race’s coordinator, Joey Garofalo, not only for generously donating the proceeds from registration to COA but also for his efforts in keeping the race free of single-use plastics and reducing the overall waste created by the event. Joey is a devoted defender of the ocean and we are so inspired by his commitment to the environment and the community.
Wet and cold but still all smiles from some of our volunteers.
