Fantastic Fall Student Summits in Review

Cape May Student Summit!

Clean Ocean Action kicked off the back-to-school SEAson with two fantastic Student Summits in south Jersey! The 2nd annual Cape May Student Summit returned to the fabulous Nature Center of Cape May on October 5 and the 35th Annual Fall Student Summit returned to the beautiful Island Beach State Park (IBSP) on October 12. Field trips were led by scientists, educators, and experts in the field from organizations such as American Littoral Society, Jenkinson’s Aquarium, and Barnegat Bay Partnership. The environmental roundtables were taught by local high school students from Lower Cape May Regional High School who taught at Cape May and Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences who taught at IBSP! These incredible high school students are central to the Summit’s success, as they also helped our volunteer field trip leaders with their groups and provide peer-to-peer learning to younger students. For 2023, the Cape May and IBSP Student Summit engaged over 400 middle school students, teachers and chaperones.
