Too Much, Too Fast! Halt 4000 MW MORE Offshore Wind Development!
The NJ Board of Public Utilities’ (BPU) is expected to announce up to 4,000
more megawatts (MW) of OSW energy before the end of 2023. This amount
would more than double existing contracts for the state. In the name of good
governance, fiscal responsibility, and environmental stewardship, COA called on
NJ to stop digging deeper into the hole of reckless offshore wind development.
On October 18, COA held a press conference calling for NJ to pause the pending
Third Solicitation for OSW energy development. In a letter to NJ Governor
Murphy and the NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), COA urged for the
cancelation of the Third Solicitation and stopping the awarding any additional
OSW development contracts amid the increasing financial, technical, economic
and scientific uncertainties within the offshore wind industry and increasing
threats to the marine ecosystem. At the same time, COA launched a petition to urge citizens to support the call for a pause. As
of this writing, 1,340 signatures signed this call for action. Go to COA's Website for more information, read the letter here, and sign the petition here.
