911: COA Staff to the Resuce! (of a stranded seal)

Yesterday was a very exciting day for the team here at Clean Ocean Action.  We helped release a SEAL!

It’s very rare that we actually get to see the marine animals that we work so hard to protect so an opportunity to see a seal get released back to the ocean was quite a thrill.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center alerted us to their arrival on Sandy Hook with an adult male harp seal to be released.  The seal weighed about 180 lbs so they needed extra hands to bring the cage and the seal to the water’s edge.   This seal took off like the wind when the door was released.  He very happily wormed his way along the sand to the sea, his home,  and left us to carry his very heavy cage back to the seal van.  It was a great day to be a COA staff member!
