Become a BBBF!

A watershed is an area of land that drains to a particular water body.  Water travels from the high points of a watershed (such as hills and mountains) to low points in the watershed (such as lakes and rivers) and ultimately to the ocean.  Everyone lives in a watershed; NJ has 20 watershed management areas (see map above).  Just as water travels through the watershed, so does our trash.  As water travels across lawns, parking lots, roofs, and roadways it becomes polluted when it picks up everything in its way.

Do you live in the Barnegat Bay watershed?

If so… take a moment to Become a Barnegat Bay Buddy today!

By taking the Barnegat Bay Buddy Challenge, individuals fill out a check-list as they learn lawn-care best management practices that will reduce the non-point source pollution that comes from their yard and eventually winds up in the bay.  Certified Barnegat Bay Buddies are awarded with lawn medallions and become part of a larger movement for collective citizen action to help Barnegat Bay.
