Safe To Swim?

Headed to the beach?  Here's what you should know.

OCEAN BEACH CLOSINGS:

Brown and York Avenue beaches in Spring Lake and the Terrace and Beacon Blvd. beaches in Sea Girt are closed today as a precaution due to rainfall and the resulting stormwater discharge from Wreck Pond.

RIVER/BAY BEACH CLOSINGS:

L Street River beach in Belmar and the Shark River Beach and Yacht Club in Neptune are closed today as a precaution due to rainfall and the resulting stormwater discharge

Test results from most beaches will not be available until tomorrow.

Health advisories have been posted for 3 of the 4 beaches tested in Ocean County where the rapid test which provides same day results is being used as part of a pilot program.  Windward Beach in Brick, Avon Road in Pine Beach, Beachwood Beach West in Beachwood all had exceeded the health threshold using the new test method.  Angelsea in Ocean Gate had one sample above and one below this level and was stated as having an undetermined result. Confirmation samples using the traditional method will be available tomorrow.
